'You dream of being a chef? Well screw you!' SPOILERS

So in the end, Linguini just gives up on trying to become a chef and settles for WAITER? Believe it or not, I have seen people PRAISING this turn of events, claiming it's a "realistic message" and that "sometimes, what you dream isn't the best course of action". Look, I can understand why you would say this to those poor deluded souls who believe they can become professional artists and so forth but this is a guy who gives up on his dream of becoming a great chef, which he could accomplish if he practiced enough, to become a WAITER. What, he's going to become a waiter for the rest of his life and die in poverty? Is he going to enjoy lugging plates around during all this time? This is just way too cynical, if you ask me. Anyone agree?

Well, Linguini never actually dreamed of becoming a chef. Remy did. Linguini just wanted to keep a job. He admitted several times throughout the movie that he couldn't cook.

First, as the other poster mentioned, Linguini didn't really want to be a chef, he just wanted a job. He jumped at the opportunity to wait tables and the film made it clear he was excellent at it, a natural.

Second, your comment about how he could become a "great" chef if he worked hard enough, is just untrue. He could become a chef, maybe, but not a great one... Cooking is an art, and like any art all the training and practice in the world will only get you so far without natural talent and passion.

OP has been a member for 9 years and this is 1 of 2 comments he has made. The other being back in 06. I was just cheking his profile to see if he was the same guy complaining about the "bummer" ending over at the Monsters U board.

Doesn't look like it, he better not watch that film or he will be really bent out of shape.

which he could accomplish if he practiced enough,

I disagree. Being a great chef (as opposed to a competent cook) is an art. Some people will have the talent for it and some won't. (I don't, by the way)

Practice can help you improve. But if you lack the talent for something, you will never be great. The trick is to find what you can be great at.
