When the neighbour in the woods and shouts "I want to see Emily, I want to see her now!" near the ending.

What is that all about?

I think it was to make the audience feel that he was actally Charlie, having lost his daughter he coundnt come to grips with it and was trying to lure Emily away from David. Rememeber what his wife said something along the line of "he can make it so painful sometimes"

However he was more concerned about Emilys saftey, the strange behavior David was showing was a cause for concern. David at the time did not know of any strange behavior on his part and we do not know what kind of behavior David was in while he stayed in the house and towards the neighbours as most of the time Charlie was in control. And David was in a dream world where he wrote in his book about Emily and listened to his music. Remember he looked in the boxes and found the book empty and his headphones still wrapped up. So when he was confronted by his nextdoor neighbour i think he said something like "i heard noises and saw someone with a shovel" he proberly thought hes murdered Emily and buried her in the backyard. Hence "i want to see Emily"

i think the neighbour was a pedophile

reply

no he wasn't a pedophile, he had a daughter that died of cancer and she looked like and was about the same age as emily. david was acting all weird and the neighbor was kinda sick with grief over his daughter as the wife of the neighbor mentions i think and the neighbor thought that david had hurt emily. he was trying to protect her. he was not a pedophile.

I agree, he was definitely not a pedophile. Clearly the strange behaviour he exhibited in regards to Emily was caused by the grief of losing his daughter. It would probably be a very difficult thing; to lose your only daughter and then have a girl who resembles her move in next door.
I think it was pretty clever to use that situation to make the neighbour seem suspicious, when in the end it is just a mixture of grief and concern for Emily's saftey that caused his strange behaviour.
