like what was his diagnosis?
shareI'd have to take a guess and go with something like Multiple personality disorder/Dissociative Identity Disorder. It seems to fit David/Charlie's character.

It looks like schizophrenia. In classic cases of schizophrenia the schizophrenics other personality is the opposite of them, out of control, which can often make them violent and frightening.

Schizophrenia and Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) are two mental disorders which are not similar, but often confused with each other.
David has MPD, in which you cannot hear another voice, but it is as though another person completely takes over the body. The original person, in this case David, has no recollection of when Charlie, the invading personality, is in control. Whereas Charlie is aware of David, and has his memories, which is why Charlie kills Katherine, because David saw her with another woman.
Search Eve White onto Google. It was a study done by two psychologists, Thigpen & Cleckley (yes, I laughed at their names as well). Eve White had MPD, if you read through you can see many similarities. The unexplained loss of memory, sometimes replaced by a false memory (EG she wrote the beginning of a letter to the psychologists, but thought she had destroyed it, but it later was found addressed and sent to Thigpen & Cleckley, But the last paragraph was written was though by another person, in the writing of a child. It was later found that this paragraph was written by Eve Black, the invading personality.)
I've studied cases of both MPD and Schizophrenia in my Psychology lessons, we review old cases of mental disorders, theories on learning, memory, etc.
