WHY WAS THIS R????
I watched this and frankly, there is nothing R-Rated in this movie. I say this because I just watched Secret Window, and if anything, it's more violent and disturbing then Hide and Seek. What are your thoughts????

Compared to The Dark Knight, it should've gotten a PG-13.
shareI don't know why it would be Rated R either. Compared to the Dark Knight it should be rated PG. Dark Knight was pretty violent.
shareI think because of who the villain is. Not necessarily for violence, but for the thought process where you think that the villain (not mentioned because of spoilers) would actually go so far to do that.

Pg-13, I just got done watching it and I agree with the not it being Rated R, but I wouldn't let a 7 year old watch it so not PG. Too creepy, suggestive, bloody, etc.

Perhaps the R-rating was because of the fact that it had children in it being terrified and almost killed by their father who has multiple personality disorder....
if a kid watches a film identical to hide and seek, but Emily is infact a grown woman, it would scare them a lot less than the original film, where a child there own age is being scared and dealing with murderous fathers, and creepy neighbours...

I agree with ginagenie. I think it's because of the fact that a father went around and tried to murder his young daughter. The violence is generally tame, but some of the subject material is pretty disturbing and shouldn't be seen by younger children.
I didn't even notice an F-bomb, and even PG-13 movies can use those when it's not a sexual reference. The violence in this film wasn't intense, and it was a very soft R. Really, I think that rating cuts them off from a huge potential audience for this film.
shareYeah, should've been rated PG-13. It has some blood in it and a little too violent to be PG. In fact, most horror-thriller movies are rated either PG-13 or R.
