the only thing i didn't see coming(spoiler)

OK so i just watched this and the only part of the plot that wasn't totally predictable to me was finding out that he killed his wife. i thought maybe he developed a split personality because of her suicide...

I agree - I was convinced it was a ghost, particularly when Charlie pushed Elizabeth out of the window.

"He murders his wife every night. Other than that, I think he's pretty harmless."

reply

the split personality was due to finding his wife cheating on him

He probably always had a split personality in some degree. People develop such disorders. In the movie he said that he had a bad childhood.

reply

The split personality must have been known, cos the other psychiatrist called him charlie in the cave.

Also - nice twist at the end. As suspected from what she did to the other girls doll, Emily also has split personality

I guessed the Dad was Charlie the first time i saw it.
I didn´t guess the kid would become like him too, which was a nice change.
I would prefer the alternative ending though where the kid is in an asylum.

No, she didn't know beforehand. Up until that point, she had thought Charlie was Emily's imaginary friend. If she knew Charlie was David, she wouldn't have gone along with the imaginary friend thing. That would be incredibly irresponsible of her, to allow this thing to continue and leave Emily alone with David in the countryside while he was having this downward mental spiral. If she knew, she would have told David to come back to the city for treatment. She worked out that David was Charlie when she saw how different David had become and the things he was doing. Emily had said to her on the phone "I don't want to play with Charlie anymore", and it was clear that bad things were happening, so when she arrived and found David doing the bad things, well, it was clear.

That came as a surprise to me as well, especially because I thought it was a ghost or something. Liked the twists!

I didn't know they gave out rings at the holocaust - Alan, The Hangover.

More obvious is the fact that you're a fat loner.

I had thought it was a ghost or demon or something, when I first saw it. Though at some point I got to thinking it was the neighbor. I was pleasantly surprised with the twist.

I thought it was the ghost of the neigbours dead child.I was so sure the neighbour would say at some point to deniro that we miss Charlie very much and then he would relize it.Anyone thought the same?
