Alternate Endings

When a film has this many alternate endings, it's clear that, conceptually, something isn't working, and that the Director is struggling to find a punctuation mark for his story.

HIDE AND SEEK is a mish-mash of horror conventions, borrowing liberally from PSYCHO, THE EXORCIST, THE SHINING, THE SIXTH SENSE, THE OTHERS, THE RING, and just about every twenty-first century mainstream thriller to come down the road. It's a film that struggles to find a beginning, stumbles painfully throughout a red-herring-filled second act, and then collapses limply during the climax. None of the five ending work, revealing this to be an exercise in mood and atmosphere without ever having anything interesting to say.

In other words, this was a paycheck film.

I agree. The director had a problem. The movie not only has all those alternate endings in the DVD, but also had a different ending in the theatres, depending the theatre and country.

Yes, there are five endings: The theatrical and four others. I agree with the original poster that this is a sign the director was taking a stab in the dark, so to speak. I respect directors who stick to their vision – who even have a vision to begin with – instead of tossing it all into the air and seeing where it lands.

I only know of two endings, the hospital and the drawing, both of which I think worked. What are the other three endings?
