There are a lot of clues in the movie support the idea there was a ghost like the ending drawing and why did Elizabeth freaked out that much that she jumped from the window from his back and the beginning of the movie when the cop looked at the cave direction.
She freaked out because he came out of the closet (no pun intended) with probably a creepy face, and inmediately started getting too close to her. Plus, when he finds out about who CHARLIE is, we see him at the window in a flashback.
