There was already a SCI-FI movie called Slipstream. It was released in the 80's and starred Mark Hamil. It had a very interesting premise about a global wind caused after a nuclear holocaust ("the slipstream").

shareYes, that is one of my favorite "overlooked" Sci-Fi flicks. I actually got to see it at a test screening in Santa Monica back in '88. From what I remember, they kept most of the movie the same, despite some of the audience's negative feedback.

"Not only that, but Anthony Hopkins has announced that he's writing and directing a time-travel based movie ALSO entitled Slipstream."
I would think that copyright laws would prohibit this repetitious title problem. Perhaps it is the nickname being used to keep the actual shoot site from being overrun by mobs of fans? This was an issue for Matrix, their title was "burley man" in order to keep the security tight. Since all the filming has been completed on the Matrix trilogy, I mention it now. Just curious if the seeming title mix-up is a working title only?

Mark Hamill was fantastic in that movie. The rest of it wasn't...
shareWell, it seems the title is really "Slipstream" after all. There are half a dozen other Slipstreams on IMDb.
By the way, did you know that the working title for "Matrix: Revolutions" was "Spooner"?
if you google the name, you'll find all kinds of films and products on the market with the same name. but this slipstream (astin and jones) is showing at a bunch of fests including the london sci-fi film festival on feb 3 (www.sci-fi-london.com) and the sarasota film fest sometime in feb also. official website at www.slipstreamfilm.com..

Strangely enough, I entered http://www.slipstreamfilm.com/ in my browser
and got a page that took forever to load only to produce a photo of a cell phone with an "enter" button. Pushed 'enter' and it was all about this cell phone. Any idea what happened to the original site you were pointing to?

The "cell phone" is the Slipstream time travel device. It's one of those fake advertising ploys, a la Lacuna Inc. from "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

Wild. So even though there is at least another, fully completed film by the name of Slipstream, Anthony Hopkins is writing/directing a film by the same title? No one has told him? And you say, Phaedrus1965, that there are half a dozen OTHER Slipstreams on IMDb? Sheesh! Doesn't anyone MIND? As an author, I certainly wouldn't want to use a title that's been used so often before.
As to working titles, I must admit, "Spooner" has an interesting flavor to it. ;) Nope, didn't know that was the working title for Matrix: Revolutions. My source wasn't working on the set of that one.
