I would assume she became pregnant by a subsequent boyfriend. That's not unusual, and considering how many boyfriends the character of Jean had, very probable. Tons of women have children by different fathers. I don't see any goof there.

Anybody remembers Ashley Judd's character in "Where the Heart is" (2000)?

Well, she had a pile of kids, named after snack foods (Brownie, Praline, Cherry and Baby Ruth), each with a different father, and never got married! It's not so uncommon :-)

I was totally just going to post a question about the exact same thing!!! I always wondered whether or not Holly and Zoe were half-sisters. That would make the most sense, although they really didn't make it clear. They just said that Holly's father took off right away. From there, I guess you're just supposed to assume that Jean had Zoe with another man, and he obviously didn't stick around either.

Very interesting how that was left open...

I think they had different dads but it was never clearly stated.

You think taht's weird?

I had a teacher once who shacked up with some guy, and he left her pregnant, and then disappeared. She had the baby, and a couple of years later, the guy came back. He apolgized, wooed her and charmed her, and she forgave him and took him in again. Then, she got pregnant again, and the dude took off again!

From my interactions with her during class I knew she was a couple of fries short of a happy meal, but that just took the cake.

Anyway, the point is that people often don't think things through before doing them.

This post is old but...it's just kind of shocking to me how some people can't fathom siblings being from different parents.
