Peter Jackson decided to make a fantasy film about a raped and murdered 14 year old girl? they even had this film shown in 3D for Christ sakes!

I just can't get over it. It was a mismatched drama with huge fantasy elements that were completely inappropriate. Now, I'll tell you what, if the Heaven/in between scenes were done differently this film could have worked. And I mean no playing with puppies, fashion shows and giant snow globes. They could have had Suzie walking through a setting that looked much more like earth with no surrealism. The Asian girl could have showed up too but not to play around with Suzie in fantasy land, instead she could have made brief appearances and had a more somber tone (don't forget, she was horribly murdered too).

I think this film could have been made, just not like this and not by Jackson who was extremely insensitive to the subject matter.

I don't mind this movie but just FYI, do not read the book it's based on as it goes into graphic detail about how Mr. Harvey raped Susie. Considering that, this movie in that regard is better than the book imo.

I know about the book. I'm aware. But the movie adaptation is just ridiculous. Apart from a few tense moments it's basically a trip into candyland.

How can you judge the adaptation if you've not read the book? As I remember they did a pretty good job of an oddly told story and Stanley Tucci was genuinely scary in it. One of these days, when I'm feeling braver, I must watch it again.

This movie was loosely adapted from the book written by Alice Sebold , the book she wrote is about a real life experience that occured to her when she was 18 , she was raped but not killed . the movie is a fantasy interpretation of her story , the events , names and places are completely different.

haha true - we had such a great sinister start, creepy killer and an awesome victim ... I was looking forward for a thrilling movie .. and suddenly we were in candyland .. wtf
