Always want to recast this film

If you could recast most of the leads who would you choose?

I was ok with Johnny Lee Miller, Amanda Peet, Chloe Sevighney, Steve Carrell, Josh Brolin, Daniel Sunjata, Zach Orth

But everyone else..

Melinda, Ellis, Sam, Hobie, Cassie....

I would have liked to see Julia Roberts, Claire Danes or Drew Barrymore as Melinda. Or Claire Danes or Liv Tyler as Cassie. Robert Downy Jr or Sam Rockwell as Ellis, not sure about Sam or Hobie or the rest.

Interesting post.

Allen originally wanted Winona Ryder as Melinda and Robert Downey Jr. as Hobie, but their legal problems prevented this from happening. I'm ok with Will Ferrell, though you're right, I tend to wonder if Melinda would have been better played by another actress. Not that Radha Mitchell isn't good.
I've thought about Kate Winslet as Melinda - that could have worked very well.

Kate Winslet perfect!! And Downy Jr would have been great.

Drew Barrymore would have been a very interesting choice. She had already worked with Woody Allen too.

Anyone on the planet other than Will Ferrell. He was bloody awful.
