i just finished the book and i loved it! i saw the end of the movie on lifetime once, but i never saw the whole thing. is it a tv movie? or a real movie? is it on dvd or online??

Actually, it's sorta both.
It was made as a theatrical film and played at many film festivals, including Sundance. When distribution plans fell through it was bought by Showtime (who over the years has bought many films at Sundance) and sold an interest in the film to LifeTime because both networks wanted the message of the film to be reached by as many people as possible. It premiered simultaneously on them both 2005, although it was a bit censored on LifeTime.
