If you ever get a chance, make sure you see the making of doc on the DVD. It takes you through every stage of the filming and also gives you little tidbits about the actors (Henry Thomas loves the Bagpipe). The documentary also has one of the most interesting critisisms I have ever seen. One one of the pre production artists is showing his design for the creature either the writer or the director says that it "Looks Like A Retarded Alien"

Hahaha at least they didn't go with the original design that looked like a half-melted mongoloid.

I got to see the creature in real life. It was a machine and it was so cool. I saw it on my 1st day on the set
