A true horror movie for 2004

This movie literally gave me nightmares.. for that reason alone.. I voted it a 10 on IMDB.com. This is a GREAT horror movie.. I can't truly say why.. I don't know if it is the story or the quick cuts.. I suggest anyone who wants to be creeped out to rent this movie. You wont be disappointed.

I was very disappointed. The whole movie was slow and boring for the most part,no scares, nothing new in horror, the same old same old :( I had heard some relatively good things about it,but it didnt live it up to any of them for me.But to each his own LOL

No scares?? Woman are you insane?? There were tons of scares. Either you were drunk, you're desensitized or you have no concept of horror. Any time a deformed demon child jumped out, it should've at least startled you. The slow and boring part is called plot and character development, something most modern horror lacks.

Keep the sig "I'm not the sort of woman men marry", it fits. Men don't want women who aren't afraid of anything until they get caught and expect the men to rescue their butts. :)

Maybe I am desensitized to horror movies, but not to real life horror,I'm 40 and have been looking at mostly horror since I was 6 or 7 years old.I just wasnt impressed with this movie at all.Maybe if the back of the movie hadnt shown the demon kid,it would have at least startled me,but I was expecting it.Oh,my old sig was from a movie, not meant to be taken literally,my hubby is quite happy and impressed with my ability to not be scared of movies LOL

"Scares" are what ruins the majority of horror movies. What is the point of a quick cut with a loud crash sound that makes you jump of surprise for about half a second? Scares are stupid and only make you laugh after the jump. The point of a horror movie is not to make you laugh or jump, it's to make you afraid (if you get into the game) and glued to the seat. You're not supposed to jump, you're supposed to be glued to the seat and on the edge of a nerves crisis.

Dead Birds does have scares, the lame ones that make you jump, but the "slow and boring" parts of the film are what gives it atmosphere and what genuinely makes you anxious.

Sometimes slow and boring means just that...slow and boring.

I was very underwhelmed by DEAD BIRDS. I appreciate character development and plot just as much as anyone. All the flashy effects in the world can't make up for lack of either (VAN HELSING, anyone?).
But DEAD BIRDS was such a wasted opportunity. This movie could have been really scary, but everything was so lackluster (the direction, the cinematography, the casting...), I just had a hard time getting into it.
The creature effects were certainly creepy, but sometimes even the suckiest movie can have a cool monster.
One major problem I had was that this group of criminals who just robbed a bank (and cold-bloodedly killed quite a few people in doing so) never really gave me the sense that they were really all that dangerous once that scene was over. In hindsight, they all seemed pretty tame for murderers.
Add to that a rousing game of COUNT THE CLICHES and you've got a horror flick designed to bore.

I guess I should have taken the hint when one of the reviews on the back of the DVD said that it was the scariest American movie since CABIN FEVER.
Yeesh, with reviews like that, who needs enemies?

I was amused by what you said Chris Connor. I was standing in Blockbuster reading the back of the movie's case and saw the remark about Cabin Fever and wanted to instantly put this movie back. I have'nt watched it yet, but I hope that the movie surpasses Cabin Fever. Cabin Fever was terrible!!!! Check out a movie called Session 9. It is horror at its finest without the gore and usual antics of todays modern fright movie.

I just checked out the IMDB page for SESSION 9 and it does look interesting!
How have I missed this one?
I'll give it a go as soon as I can locate a copy.

I have seen Session 9, that movie is really freaky. It was first recommended to me while I was in Psychology class by my professor a couple years ago. As with all horror movies watch it in the dark.

DeadBirds was an awesome movie, I plan on seeing it again soon. I am debating on whether to rent it or buy it. Great horror movie all out - wicked looking creatures, great graphics, storyline and suspense! I would rate it 9 out of 10.

I completely agree with you, it is such a cliche for horror films to have jump scares.

I really enjoyed Dead Birds but the scenes where the demons suddenly appeared had no affect on me at all.

However, if those scenes had been slow, in which the demons slowly appeared and the camera lingered on them then I probably would have felt quite creeped out and it would have fit with the slow pace of the film - which I adore by the way, because it built such a wonderfully creepy atmosphere.

I had hoped for more character development, but at least we knew a bit about their personalities.

I watched it today for the first time and apart from those few points, I thought it was a good film

Yeah Man, it was quite hazy, surreal, original, and having a creepy anxiety feel to it the whole time.

it wasn't scary AT ALL. Of course, I already know I'm desensitized, but it doesn't change that fact that it was also boring and confusing.

nice car. that must have been a HUGE cereal box.

I didnt find it scary at all!
Then again I am desensitised AND was drunk, hehe.
