Spoiler alert! William and Joseph's fates

So, at what point did William become a demon? During the remainder of the night as he knelt beside the body of Annabelle? Is the second dead demon discovered by the confederate soldiers at the end the one that was chasing William, or is it the one shot dead from when William's gang first arrived at the cornfield? And what happens to Joseph after William spots him from the window shuffling past the house, obviously having managed to get out of the well ...

The 2nd body was Annabelle's, i assumed

It left me quite confused, but what I figured was the soldiers who shot him at the end saw exactly what he and his posse saw when they killed the demon in the beginning. That lead me to believe the demon they had killed in the beginning had been a "normal" person just like William who happened to go to the house before them. It was kind of a roundabout way of coming back to the beginning, since the couple of soldiers who shot William started to make their way through the cornfield toward the house...to share a similar fate.

I dunno, the movie freaked me out but it also baffled me there at the end. And what the hell DID happen with Joseph? At first I thought he turned into a...whatever...after being pulled into the well, and that's why he went shambling by the window the way he did. But then they discovered the money was gone right after that happened. Did Joseph take the money?

I am thinking WAY too hard about this.
