I like all of them for the most part but after recently seeing the first episode "No Birds Sing" for the first time I would have to say that one is my favorite-seeing how they met and what was happening with them just before I also liked the mystery for that episode very much.I love Laura and Rosemary!
Second one is also excellent. I started with these near the last 5 made and those were a bit thinner. They were set in Eurolands not England. Second one has neat players and some good plot dialogue. Maybe didn't need the winky "two women together" cop routine but they did over treat that. Rosemary gets to work some comedic facial gestures. Love that old beater "wagon"! Ah, the director Tom Clegg did 2,3, and 5 episodea of 1st season. He did most of the Sharpe's series, and last one in 2006. That explains a lot. Also trying the new BBC-USA series Clatterford. That too is clever tho not a mystery detective series. Small town Brit life along the comedy, slice of life form.
I just saw "Orpheus In The Undergrowth" I'm sure I saw before at least I rememeber the very end but it was an excellent episode both Laura's son and daughter appear in it.Another great myserty.
Thanks for the info. Here in Manhattan, the last episode was on LI channel 21 and was Tree of Death from last show of Season 1. Haven't had a show for a few weeks now. Guess there's a lag until they do a full Season 2 block. I came into this show backwards having caught Season 3 in original go round. Now have seen Season 1 and they were beautifully done. Season 3 seemed more plot driven. So awaiting Season 2 just to see how they handled that. The Tree of Death was good as were a lot of Season 1. Same with Season 3 as the pair had their act together. Oh now I'm a bit confused. Tree of Death used that hurting/healing powers of rhat tree. But I thought I saw one after that about clearing out the brush around a waterfall. One with the pipe rail walkway down from waterfall. Has the clue of initials carved into tree and they find out the girl has rights to family fortune. Think that was last one I saw. Channel 21 is a PBS one and is now in money raising phase. So I'm figuring after that passes they may return to norman programing and start Season 2. Doubt they'd leave it at just Season 1. They usually do all of BBC runs. I'll look for the Laura real life family players. Also happy to see a new season of detective Brit 50s noire Jericho. Also returning MI-5. Terrific series. I miss Night Detective. And just saw a commercial for a new CBS animated series starting soon from the now Hollywood Wallace & Gromit guys. Looks all bright, shiny and witty. Geez, throw in Hustle and Robin Hood and all my faves are Brit shows and a few old American standbys like NCIS and Ugly Betty.
I think the later episodes are slightly less intersing certainly the supporting characters seemed less developed. The first and second season seemed to have taken more time and care with the supporting characters some of the later plots seems a bit on the thin side.
''no birds sing'' the very first episode is my favourite as i've only ever seen it once years ago. and i would kill too see it once again. i was a late comer too 'R&T'. think i joined it some episodes into season 2. much miss this wee gem of a show. shame on itv.
they are all quite daft, but the last two are so funny they should have been up for comedy awards, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. im sure they must have known when they made the last ones that the show was to be axed as they were so badly acted by all. the two leads are pretty ropey all the way through but there is something quite addictive about them.
I tried very hard to like this serie, the filming, the locations, the actors, the dreamy "theme" music it's all great and very charming, but I feel it suffers from a bad script, sometimes there just isn't enough plot to make it really interesting or even believable.
That said; I have only seen the first serie, and the episode that I liked best is "A Simple Plot". It was well written, had an interesting twist and, not the least, had the ability to surprise. It had a great build-up and a great finale, with Felicity Kendal in "real" danger. I felt it made up for the other, not-so-good episodes.
I love this show! I have a few favorites... No Birds Sing, The Gongoozlers, The Invisible Worm and The Memory of Water. All for Different reasons of course :O)I love the fact that our library has all 3 series! I get them every few months to rewatch.
