Janis Refusing to Speak Out in Detail About Regina

Damian: When we were 13, she made people sign this petition saying that Janis was a…
Janis: Damian!

Does anybody have any idea why Janis kept stopping this story and changing the subject? This seems like a good time for Janis to show Cady how awful Regina was to her. If I were Janis, I would've said something like…

Janis: She was obsessed with the idea that I was a lesbian and had a huge crush on her. She kept passing around these petitions like it would somehow make it true if enough people signed it. She kept spreading the rumor to the point where I didn't even want to go to school anymore to have to deal with the insults that I would get thrown at me every day. And that's how she ruined my life.

But she didn't want to go there, and I've always wondered why…

1) Did she do or say something to Regina that would give her a good reason to suspect that Janis was a lesbian?

2) Was she actually a lesbian (or bisexual)? You could argue that the scene at the end with Kevin G proves otherwise, but I've often wondered if that was just an act to put the rumors to rest once and for all.

3) Was she afraid that Cady would believe it too? (which turned out to be true by the way)

Feel free to share your thoughts…

I think the movie was purposely ambiguous about that, and I don't think the dance with Kevin G could prove anything, she also dressed as a man at the dance.

But Janis hanged with Damian, who was an outed gay guy, and OK with it. And if Janis was really a lesbian, and felt ashamed, I doubt their friendship was going to last that long.

Also I don't think Damian believed Janis was a lesbian from the way he talked about that. If Janis were a lesbian I think at least Damian would know.

I am more inclined to think Janis was not sure of her sexuality as yet, since she was an outcast since 13.

Whatever it was Janis wanted it behind her and Cady was the new girl. She didn't want whatever the Rumor was to be spread around school again and she might not have trusted Cady yet.

Excellent responses FC31 and Blue. Thanks for your input. I expected to get Janis's side of the story at some point in the film, and I was surprised when it never happened. And with the way that Janis freaked out over Cady missing her art-show, it does give some credibility to Regina's side of the story.
