Obviously she shouldn't have started that rumour no matter what, but if she was telling the truth, it sounds like Janis kinda was obsessed with Regina.
Maybe partially true, but Regina couldve exaggerated the story to make Janis look bad.

It's possible that Regina was Janis' only friend. I've been there too when I was in middle school when I felt like a friend of mine was neglecting me. But of course, Regina thinks everyone loves her. Janis just wanted her friend back and of course Regina has to make it seem like she was in love with her.
