How would you guys react in this situation?

If you had drowned someone how would react to it?

For me I could possibly keep quiet but would eventually be driven crazy by guilt and would either confess or kill myself.

i would have taken the body back with me and called the police ASAP

or

i would cut the fat kid up into steaks and eat them

In that situation I would just say he fell out and drowned. Burying him was stupid.

reply

We'd all like to think that but it's impossible to know unless we are put into that situation ourselves.

Burying him just sent everything spiraling out of control, although irrational fear/panic always has it's influence in those situations. I felt that what happened wasn't that hideously horrible that it warranted a cover-up, the same result could genuinely happen to anyone in any fight anyway, very involuntary and unpredictable, the heat of the moment. I would have simple said the truth... arguments happened, someone got pushed in and then they drowned. Being kids as they were would have played greatly to their favor, it's far more believable that an innocent tragedy like this could have occurred and that nothing vindictive was in play. Just admitting to the truth would have been the best thing to do, what truly happened would have been accepted I think.

just say it was an accident... because it was!!! thats what pissed me off a little bit about this movie, they could have just said it was an accident, no one would have looked for or found the camera, and bada bing ur off scott free

I am.

It's not like the kids were smart enough to do that. They were all pretty moronic in the first place. They were scared and panicking. The story was realistic in that sense... And if they were smart enough to do that, there wouldn't have been a story.

Just call the police a.s.a.p and tell the truth. I don't think they could've gotten anybody on even involuntary manslaughter.(Although I could be wrong.) Covering it up made the situation 100 times worse.

First, I'd freak the *beep* out.
Then I'd just tell people that he fell in and it was an accident.

It annoys me that they buried the body. That was a dumb ass thing to do.

My first instinct would always be to come clean. Playing devils advocate though, with a bit of police work (this wouldnt be tough) they could find out that George and others werent exactly pals. With a few choice questions thrown at the more vulnerable characters (clyde and millie) i think it may eventually transpire that it was pre meditated to push george in the river. Not to kill him as such, but if the police found that out they may be looking at charging them for manslaughter.

That was the point marty was trying to make

I wouldn't drown anyone.
How did any of them "drown" him?
I know they stood there and watched him drown, but they didn't actually "drown' him.
If I was in that situation, I would of been the person trying to stop the fight.
And be the voice of reason.

its as good as,they could have jumped in and saved him.

Rocky did jump in and try to save him. If they had come clean from the start I doubt they would be convicted of any serious charges.

Well, Rocky jumped in to save him AFTER he had been flailing around and screaming for a while, and after he had gone under completely and hadn't surfaced. So ...

I watched this for the first time when it came out in theatres and I was really gripped with their panic and the terrible situation they found themselves in. While it was stupid, I could see why they did what they did (I think, overall, the point was Marty's personality dominated everyone else. One "strongman" can ruin everything by shouting the loudest, basically). I just recently re-watched it, and I was like "WTF, just claim that he fell in, couldn't swim, you tried to save him but you couldn't". Sure, there would have been risks but far fewer than what they eventually did. But again, they were panicked and dominated by Marty.

I think I would hike deep into the woods and just sit there for a few hours, thinking about it.

You'd have to be incredibly stupid and evil to even do it, even if he was a major douche.

If a situation like that ever occurred, you say he drowned. Burying him was the worst possible thing to do, cause then it does look like murder.
