The Audience are the Schmo's....

There is nothing extemporaneous in this season. Everything is scripted, produced, planned and acted. From the production booth, to the "deaf girl" flubs, to the evictions, to reading Chase's notebook. This season the audience is taken on a bounty hunt of disbelievability and if we choose to play along, we end up the schmo's. Sometimes it is fun. Sometimes it is an eye-roll. Mostly it is a spoof on the viewer, but unlike Chase, TV audience "schmo's" leave the series without the bidet or the bank roll.

It's just a fun TV show that spoofs other reality shows.

That being said, the thing that made Joe Schmo 1 was the timing. It came along at a point where just about every reality show on the air was super serious and followed the same format.

Joe Schmo 1 was a breath of fresh air that completely spoofed shows like The Real World, The Bachelor, and Survivor.

Well okay, Real World started about a decade prior to Joe Schmo 1... but Surivor was on it's 4th season and Bachelor was hitting it's 2nd season when Joe Schmo 1 came alone.

Now... there's all kinds of wacky reality shows out there, so the impact of this third season is nowhere near what the impact of prior seasons were. I feel like the producers are WAY trying to overcompensate. Sometimes less can be more, and if (highly doubtful) there is ever a fourth season, hopefully they will have learned their lesson.

All of this is just my opinon. I still enjoy Joe Schmo because I'm a huge Ralph Garman fan and because I made a decision from the 2nd episode on to not nitpick and to just shut my brain off and enjoy the off the wall antics. It's definitely not season 1... but it's better than the 16th season of The Bachelor or the 25th season of Survivor (in my opinion at least). At least the show doesn't take itself so damn seriously like all of those other shows. It's stupid/cheesy humor, but I dont know... isn't there a place for that on TV? Especially on a network like Spike.

Chase Rogan has a master's degree from Penn State. He runs his own business. And the producers are surprised he's not an idiot?

"What?" - Don Draper

reply

yep. we needed a really clueless schmo and his smirk alone tells me hes on to a lot of this.

reply

His reaction to the gross out competition tells me he knows. Just standing around looking on the ground not reacting much. Wasn't buying it at all. Either he knows or he's in on it and wasn't on his game.

reply

Chase is bad at acting, I could tell his reactions were fake the first time I watched this show. The producers are ball-less idiots for not just making a real show.

reply

Not making a "real" show is the entire premise of this show.
