Clarification on the story

I was reading the information that was provided on imdb and I wasn't sure of something. Why is it that they needed someone to pose as Kubrick during the production of Eyes Wide Shut? Was it because of all of the conspiracies surrounding his death? I have no clue about this and clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Alan Conway was a con man in Britain, who claimed to be Stanley Kubrick.
He did this to receive VIP treatment at hotels, restaurants, etc.

That's it. Period.

It has NOTHING to do with EYES WIDE SHUT or Kubrick's death.
(The late 1990's is just the timeframe for the story.)
