What a total dissapointment...
Was really looking forward to this, and really tried to like it, but looking back... what a mess.
A one trick pony, pretty much the same "gag" for the whole film. Alan lies, people fall for it, sometimes hes caught.
Dont get me wrong, Malkovitz was fantastic as were others (actually, pretty much the whole cast was brilliant) and the first half was quite enjoyable, but what happened in the edit suite?
Stories were set up and not concluded, characters introduced then vanished with no real need for them to be there... and the end? He hung out with the stars he obsessed over, yet we never see what his relationship is like... I cant image he could have got away with the whole Kubrick thing, or his antics would have been appreciated there.
Lastly some of the dialogue was just stupid. Lines like "Imagine if Jesus played the guitar" and the "intitutionalise him... oh I mean hospitalise him" line from the doctor just seemed to be planted there for the trailer... and then the unexpected fat-lady-fart gag...
Its a shame. I would have like to actually learn something out this character, what Kubricks people thought, maybe bring in the reporter in earlier than the last 20 mins. It seemed the director was keen to keep it as simple and repetitive as possible.
