Most likely due to the fact that the Australian based distributer (Dendy) was the only one who really cared about it. *shrugs* If it makes you feel better you can always just import it. Or stop caring, it's really not that enjoyable a film. Or just take refuge in the fact Australia usually gets screwed over in terms of TV, Cinema and Video Game releases.
