'miss' Kirk Douglas

What's the deal with this demeaning phrase that Alan Conway is using in connection to that great actor? Is there any truth in his words or is it typical homosexual slur?

reply

I figured he said it because the real Kubrick and Douglas couldn't get along.

yeah, you're probably right; it was too far fetched...

According to Douglas ( in his auto-biography "The Ragman's Son", Kubrick muscled his way into the director's job on "Spartacus", and was not shy about taking credit for the work of others on the film. He refers to Kubrick as a "very talented *beep* And this after their successful and friendly relationship during "Paths of Glory". Conway is getting back at Douglas to seem more authentic as Kubrick, obviously.

I think that they put this in to show just how ignorant of Kubrick's movies Conway was. The only thing he knew about SPARTACUS was that Kubrick directed it and that it starred someone named Kirk Douglas. He didn't even take the time to learn what the movie was about, or that Douglas was male.

reply

IMO he called Kirk Douglas 'Miss' to show that they had some kind of familiarity with Kirk, like calling someone famous by their nick-name that only close friends would know

also since he played such a macho character in Spartacus, it might have been just 'taking the piss'

reply

It's just a gay thing. It can be catty or affectionate. I think it's funny.

reply

I just thought the whole thing was for him to take advantage of the lack of film knowledge that most people had.
