Why did it get cancelled?

From wikipedia ....

The show was pulled from its Thursday-night timeslot in December 2005, and NBC returned the show in a new timeslot (Tuesdays at 8pm) on March 7, 2006. Despite being in competition with American Idol, the ratings were even higher; Joey was the highest rated prime time program of the week for NBC. The network pulled the series after the first Tuesday airing and its cancellation was announced on May 15, 2006.

It doesn't make sense. According to that, the week befote it was cancelled, it was the highest rated prime time show of the week for NBC. Why would they cancel it, if it had such great ratings?

I'm Jewish, thats no cake walk either. I was elected school treasurer... I didn't even run!

it may of gained higher ratings that week, but Joey had already a record of losing viewers from the first episode to the more recent one. NBC tried to revamp the show in season 2 by making joey a more successful/famous actor, giving him a "friend," giving more screen time to the other cast members, and such...

but it didn't perform any better. It wasn't what NBC wanted. They wanted another hit like friends. they had success with cheers and fraiser (which they were probably using as a model), but Joey didn't perform nearly as successful as they hoped.

The last episode was one more shot to reach what NBC hoped for. and even though a ratings boost was given, it wasn't what NBC wanted. So, they cut it.

Other networks around the world ran the whole series in syndication, even the episodes that didn't air in the US. You can find the episodes on youtube. NBC lost interest in the show. It didn't even have season 2 put on dvd. Canada did, but US never got a release.

If that's true, then it's weird that they didn't at least show the remainder of the second season on NBC. If nothing else they were showing was doing any better, then why cancel it so abruptly? NBC has really gone downhill in recent years.

There were plans to air the last episodes in the summer, but NBC decided against it. After the one episode that aired after their hiatus, NBC was disappointed with its ratings that week, and cut it.
