How can they use the same actors?

The guy who plays eddie and joeys agent were in friends!! And now they are playing different people...i know they are actors and it is a different show, but the character of Joey is the same, so technically eddie would still be eddie!! its a spin off...

it annoys me so much i cant watch it..

Actress Jennifer Bini Taylor has played 6 different characters on the show 2 and a half men, its not really a big deal, not for me atleast :)

Yeah, and she sucks in every one of them. I hate that Charlie is domesticated by Chelsea by the way, if you didn't get that from the comment. I'm one of those who'd love to see him end up with Rose in some way. Although Mia wouldn't be so terrible either...

yupp. and King of Queens has done this too. Jerry Stillers wife plays two different people. and one of the kids in the Mighty DUcks movies plays a couple of different people as well.
atleast this is a seperate show.

I hate how IMDb signatures look like part of the post.

Yeah, it is pretty annoying but I got over it.

What I don't get, does John Lovitz play the same character in series 9 as he did in series 1? And if so, why didn't Rachel recognise him? I suppose it HAD been 9 years so she could have just forgotten... But he could have just been a completely different character together.. I dunnurrr!

I think its the same guy. He did mention the he owned the restaurant before but lost it due to drugs and that's exactly what happened when he first appeared. I guess Phoebe set Rachel up with him (even though Rachel have met him before) because knowing Rachel's personality she wouldn't remember him.

I was watching the episode the other day where Rachel dates him, and thought it odd that he returned as a different character (particularly as he is so recognizable to the audience)...I didn't catch the similarities that indicate it could be the same guy, but that's a great point!

the dude who's gina's boyfriend here and was chandlers roommate back in friends, is i think great for the role. in both shows he's a intense crazy guy, and it fits perfectly. and for joey's agent, i think she was only in one or two episodes in friends as annoying neighbour of monica and phoebe, it wasn't a significant role, so i think it's not very important at all.

I guess it's a little weird, but let's all realise sitcoms are make-believe anyway. Personally, I still see Eddy when I look at Jimmy... The actor does a good job, but for die-hard Friends fans, I guess it will always be weird...
Might have been better to cast someone else, but the actor is perfect for the part I guess.
The most annoying 're-cast' to me, was seeing the guy who played Joey's director on Deep Powder (Todd) play the dad in the Episode 'Joey and the critic'. Not only was it totally obvious that it was him, but the acting and bad bad make-up were horrible.

The woman who stole Violet's baby in Private Practice played n random in Grey's Anatomy previously. I've even seen TV shows where the same actors played different characters like 5 seasons later. They just don't seem to care about it, and it really doesn't matter. In real life people resemble others, so just try and think of the character as Eddie's doppelganger or something.

Yeah, I would think of it that way. I know I am always seeing people that remind me of someone else. Though I think it would've been funny if something was said about it on the show, especially as Eddie was such a memorable character on Friends.

I think if the Joey series had been a success, most people would excuse this kind of re-casting of actors. Harry Morgan, who played Colonel Potter on MASH, had played a more two dimensional officer in a guest role years earlier on the series. That turned out pretty well for several years worth of shows. The op has a point but is kind of choosing to take the issue to an extreme.

I guess somebody could have had that same reaction to casting a new actress as Joey's sister. I think we saw them all on Friends and Drea de Matteo wasn't there. What's the difference?

I think the problem with Joey was they tried to build a Triple Crown winner by organizing a corporate breeding committee and they just ended up with a camel and a few too many straws.

Eeeek!!! I'm getting dressed.

Well, Matthew Perry played Sandy on Growing Pains who later dies from a drunk driving accident, he later shows up on it's spin off Just The Ten of Us as a different character dating on of the girls. Technically, that should be the same universe.

P.S. I originally created my IMDB account in 2006 to comment on Joey. It's been a fun ride IMDB message boards.
