It's been awhile since I've seen the newer Alfie and I just saw the older one tonight. So, on that note, it's true. The old one doesn't hold back but it's definitely less time spent on the sex stuff! They are different... I felt at first like they went in reverse chronological order from each other, but as the film went on I realized they are incredibly similar.
So the theme in both: Alfie makes an idiot of himself and learns a very hard lesson.
