Didn't like this direction the franchise went in
The first Half-Life appeals to me so much because it was almost Doom-like in its simple premise, and I've loved that premise ever since. But why did everything move to this dumb City 17 ever since? Was that the original plan for the franchise, to take place there, but they couldn't do it yet as the tech wasn't quite there to render it, and Valve needed a solid HL1/Doom premise for its first major game to establish itself as a major game studio?
I don't like HL2 at all, I thought it was greatly overrated. And I would rather play as a lone (and I mean LONE) protagonist who is merely doing his duty, and not venerated as a Christ-like figure.
