Plot Hole

Ok...here we go.
Anyone else find the speed of an old man with a crowbar for a foot disturbingly shocking? When you see Eli in Breen's office for the last time its late afternoon-ish.When you see him again at the beginning of ep1,hes all the way in White Forest....how?
Guessing that ep1 takes place in an early morning(trying to see the sun through that damn smoke/fog)that would mean Eli & Mossman only had a few hours to...im gonna say RUN,miles upon miles to get to where Kleiner and Magnusson were.

Also, when you find Judith's message about the Borealis in the Citadel for the first time(lets for the fun of it pretend that message was intercepted by the Combine at that exact moment)that would mean Mossman was already in the artic region for hours..and Alyx tells you in ep2 that she took off to the north as soon as they got to White Forest...

Any thoughts to prove me wrong are welcome.

reply

I've thought about that too. At first I figured they could've used a teleporter, but the only ones were the one in Black Mesa East and the one in Kleiner's lab...

Even IF Breen had his own little personal teleporter up there(could be where they got to when Mossman kidnaped Eli using Nova Prospekt's teleporter)
That still wouln't explain her freaky superspeed from the Citadel to White Forest and from White Forest to the artic!...I mean come on..it took two damn episodes for Gordon to do that and she does it in a couple of hours.

I get the feeling Valve at this point is just cutting and pasting the story all over the place & half assing it,like they're doing with the whole "G-Man mistery" thing.
Ever since Portal came out they've been hell bound on mixing the two stories together..which would be perfect if they weren't making it up on the spot.

Oh and the fact they recently said "We don't know entirely what's happening in the next episode",doesn't make me feel any better about it.

I thought you were one of the biggest supporters of these games?

Anyway, I agree with you. And here's another plothole; in Episode 2 it is revealed that the GMan saved Alyx in Black Mesa, and that he has great plans for her. If this was the case, how come the GMan left Alyx to die in the Citadel at the end of H-L 2?

No NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!
I AM one of the biggest supporters!

....Idk..its the preasure from the wait of ep3.
I really dont mind a few plot holes as long as they keep the Half-Life story good and...no,EXCELLENT as they've been doing so far!

Its just...it seems like all the good movies/games that promise a good ending chapter to the saga leave me empty inside & wanting more...

Oh PS:I stick to my word that the G-Man thing is a bunch of random bull T_T

Everything you just said there had NOTHING to do with my arguement.

There was a helicopter in Magnusson's precinct. Maybe Eli had flown there?

How could the helicopter have gotten to the Citadel?

Besides when you see Alyx right after defending White Forest from the striders she tells you she "found an old helicopter and got it running again"..meaning it was there for a long time with no use.

Why is it not possible for them to have teleported from the Citadel to White Forest? Or even taken a train out of City 17?

reply

Because as far as we know,Breen didn't have a teleporter in his office. The only teleporter the Combine had was the one in Nova Prospekt..which Gordon & Alyx destroyed.
Also I highly doubt an old woman with no weapons draging around a crippled even older man were able to fight off the Combine to get to the train station.

reply

How do you figure Mossman is old? She's probably around 40 at the most. And the Combine definitely have a teleporter somewhere in the Citadel, else where did Mossman kidnap Eli to at the end of Entanglement? And how did they both get from that place to the top of the Citadel? Just because we don't actually see a teleporter in the Citadel it doesn't mean there wasn't one.

reply

Ok then, how did Mossman get out of Breen's office with Eli? The guards outside already knew she had betrayed Breen and Eli was a wanted man who every soldier in the Citadel woul have known.
Then theres also the little hole in the timeline of when the hell Mossman got to the artic. And dont tell me there was a teleporter from White Forest directly to the Borealis...

reply

Okay, now it just seems like you're taking every effort to find plot holes to complain about! I don't have all the answers, in fact, I don't have any. I can only suggest the most plausible explanations that come to mind. I don't know how Mossman took Eli out of Breen's office, or how Mossman magically got to the Arctic. Maybe she somehow got hold of the portal gun from Aperture Science

reply

Well if theres something that doesn't make sense, where people "magically" get to places....its called a plot hole...hence the whole thread.

reply

They didn't magically get there, it is still going to be possible for them to cross such distances in that sort of time. If they had found a car or truck, much like you did, they could have got there before the combine had started causing trouble.
Its not probable, but it sure as hell isn't magical.

He most likely took one of the escape pods inside the Citadel which would take him outside the city walls. Mossman did know the architecture of the Citadel and probably had access to them due to her 'status'.

reply

I doubt Dr Breen or anyone else high in the hierarchy would use the same means for transport as thy do for the slaves/combines. I guess that there were an elevator somewhere (hidden) in Dr Breens office which could take Judith and Eli out of the citadel. The reason Dr Breen did not use it was because he wanted to use the portal (with known results). Or, they did use another elevator outside the office; after all, when Dr Breen kicked the bucket and the reactor got destroyed, the soldiers fled - which they continued to do in episode one.

Now, everyone seem to draw the conclusion that Dr Mossman transmitted from the Arctic at that moment. I think that was an old recording - and she had her own reasons for not telling anyone about it when reaching Black Mesa East (or getting in touch with Dr Kleiner and Eli).
