Original Half Life rocks. It had better plot (experiment going wrong - marines sent to eliminate survivors), the best ever AI (better then in Half Life 2), better bosses, that excellent "alone against everybody" feeling while playing, overall better atmosphere, better looking weapons (it matters), the coolest enemies ever - the marines... It was a revolution.
Half Life at his best is merely an evolution. Excellent graphics, Alyx, good AI, and that is all. While playing the original Half Life I was enjoying every second of it. While playing Half Life 2 I was just waiting for the ending to finally arrive. It had nothing to keep me playing.
Half-life 2 is way better then Half-Life. What the hell do you mean better plot. There almost was no plot. Marines as enemy thats not cool, its boring. Better atmosphere, what you liked walking around boring corridors more then the amazing outdoor missions from HL2. I think the run down City with the combine watching everything and the citadel towering over everyone was the greatest creepiest atmosphere ever. And the Alone against every thing feeling, I hated that. I love working with other characters, Half life 1 was just walk to here, talk to guy who looks like everyone else, shot some stuff, boring jump puzzle and push button, repeat. Half-life 2 is way better.
Half-Life 2 sacrificed way too much content just to look "kewl". There wasn't enough new (or old) weapons, there wasn't enough new (or old) enemies, and I hated the vehicle segments. If I wanted to drive an airboat or a dune buggy, I'd play Waverace or Gran Turismo or something.
Where the hell was Xen? The coolest part of the first game was only a brief mention in Mossman's dialogue. Where were the ultra cool "living weapons?" Why was the main enemy of the first game (Vortigaunts) made into your freakin' buddy?! And there wasn't even a final boss.
Overall, H-L 2 just didn't feel like a Half-Life - game at all.
Well, in my opinion, they both had their strong and weak points. Good points: Half-Life: Good atmosphere, great enemies, strong plot. Half-Life 2: Excellent graphics, good plot, great enemies.
Bad points: HL: A little too long, + difficult puzzles HL2: Too short, and not enough romance...
Half Life 1 1. A.I was amazing 2. Weapons were amazing 3. Controls were amazing (but Gordan throwes like a girl) 4. Plot was very good 5. the ememies were great 6. Awsome envioment 7. not as many awsome mods 8.graphics were amazing (at the time) 9.stuff cut-out of the Beta was for the better
Half Life 2 1. A.I was amazing 2. weapons were lacking (gravity gun dose not count in this) 3.Controles were amazing (good to slow sown Gordon's run) 4.Plot was better 5. The enemies were better and worse (no boss, antlions were only Xen creature not counting headcrabs) 6.Draw in envioment 7.Mods that want to make you wet youself 8.graphics still surpass 360/PS3 stuff source engine is awsome 9. Could have been better to much stuff cut-out of the game
All in all HL1 and HL2 are tied for me I love both of them HL1 for giving us the series and HL2 for giving us the sorce engine and keeping a great series alive adn kicking also HL2 is not done yet we still got episodes which still count as HL2 (or all 3 together counting as HL3 but dont even say that)
Half-Life 2 was a fantastic sequel. The only thing I didn't like was them forcing you to use the gravity gun and forcing you to "enjoy" and make use of the new physics. Like at one part in the beginning where you need to climb to a platform that is not at all to high to climb like a normal person; You need to use the gravity gun to pile boxes so you can jump to it. Why does Alyx just climb it normally?!! Aargh :D
Also, I didn't like Ravenholm. But that's because I was absolutely freaked out.
you were not forced to use it but the new physics was all over the place (and every stupid explode-barrel was highlighted to you) and you only amazed at them the first time. i hate i had to use grav-gun for stupid puzzles, they were also great for the first time only. i wanted to use it as a real weapon but you can only throw grenades or defend with a stupid barrel that is dropped from 2 shots(so what's the point of it). the game was better at first 10 minutes and last level because i used gravgun as a Real weapon and don't needed the old boring guns even. while thousands were shocked at the two games' ending i felt very happy at both- just not the same cause.
Half Life 2 "Best game ever" HAHA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA nice joke!
I'd say the two games have different strengths. While Half-Life 1 used pretty much the same atmosphere it worked great you were alone, it was creepy, the Black Mesa facility huge. Xen was strange and the creatures fearsome, plus the Marines came in to try and wipe out the remaining humans. Plot was intriguing as we all remember how strange we felt when Unforeseen Consequences popped up on the screen.
Half-Life 2 has graphics, the amazing gravity gun, and human interaction. You've really got to pay attention to Alyx Vance's human qualities Valve did a good job with her. Plus there's a lot more variety to the levels, City 17 running away, Nova Prospekt, the dune buggy level and the airboat level(didn't like this one though), Ravenholm, destroyed City 17, and the Combine.
It's hard to say because I really like the originality of Half-Life 1, but Half-Life 2 is the essential FPS and hey you don't always need a final boss as HL2 used kind of like a puzzle as it's final boss(Halo 1).
I thoroughly enjoyed HL2, I thought the environments were not only diverse (from sewers, to broken cities, to coastal ridges, to high-tech buildings and finally ultra creepy ravenholm, not to mention the corridors of nova prospekt), but it was engaging with quite a few small puzzles, characters that seemed to matter and made the extremely deep plot thicken like a swimming pool full of concrete. It had a lot of scares, some great music and great set pieces. Then you have the enemies, striders, hunter-choppers, dropships, combine troops and the higher class ones, then you have headcrabs, zombies, running zombies, antlions, turrets, poison headcrabs and those electric-magnetic balls.
This game to me, did have everything. It had survival horror, it had action in bounds, it had puzzle solving, it had turret sections, vehicle sections and bosses here there and everywhere. I'm not saying it was 100% complete, although it had everything it didn't neccessarily have it in the right capacities.
I digress, I havn't played HL1 all the way through, from what I did play it seemed to be a simpler version of HL2 in just about every aspect. Sometimes simpler is better, but in my personal opinion the rest of Half Life would have had to have done something amazing in the last few chapters to have paralleled HL2.
I've always liked HL2 more. I could never really get into the story in HL1. The feeling in HL2 is so cool, kind of a mix of Blade Runner, Totall Recall and The Fugitive. And I love the game.
