Consumer awareness: R-Rated DVD vs. Unrated DVD (Region 1)
For region 1, this film has two DVD editions available. One is rated R, the other says "Unrated" on the cover and of course is unrated.
Some vendors only sell one version, some only the other. For example, Netflix only rents the unrated disc, Blockbuster only the rated disc.
The **only** difference between these two versions is the unrated version has an alternate ending. Both versions have the exact same amount of gore, horror, etc. In fact, the unrated disc has some image quality issues on some scenes.
Imagine if a movie studio released a DVD, then instead of including an alternate ending as a bonus feature, released a SECOND DVD that includes **only** the alternate ending, then charging the SAME price as the original DVD for just the alternate ending.
That's EXACTLY what Lionsgate is doing with Captivity.
I certainly hope we don't see more of THIS practice in the future.
