Consumer awareness: R-Rated DVD vs. Unrated DVD (Region 1)

For region 1, this film has two DVD editions available. One is rated R, the other says "Unrated" on the cover and of course is unrated.

Some vendors only sell one version, some only the other. For example, Netflix only rents the unrated disc, Blockbuster only the rated disc.

The **only** difference between these two versions is the unrated version has an alternate ending. Both versions have the exact same amount of gore, horror, etc. In fact, the unrated disc has some image quality issues on some scenes.

Imagine if a movie studio released a DVD, then instead of including an alternate ending as a bonus feature, released a SECOND DVD that includes **only** the alternate ending, then charging the SAME price as the original DVD for just the alternate ending.

That's EXACTLY what Lionsgate is doing with Captivity.

I certainly hope we don't see more of THIS practice in the future.

Wow what a ripoff. So nothing extra is added to the movie. Thanks man you saved me $20. I was about to buy this movie the other day. Something told me to wait though until it's cheaper lol.

Oh, no wonder the ending was totally ridiculous to me. I rented from Netflix. Terrible ending, if thats the uncut version. I was ready for the cut way before the Saw-like ending. Where does it end in the R version, at the reflection of the - eh, I don't care anyway, this movie was crap.

The R-Rated version ends after she leaves the house and walks down the street.

Thanks for this thread.

I have Blockbuster by Mail and was upset with them when I received the rated R version when their website ways they have the unrated version.

But after reading here the only difference was the ending, I'm not as upset.
