If you think this is a good movie...

I thought it was a great movie. One of the best comedies I've seen in a long time. Much better than the spoof movies that have come out lately because they are so outrageous. This movie was able to mix comedy without going over the top - oh wait...........it was meant to be a horror movie????? Ok it sucked then.

I read the blog, he got it wrong. He's right about the world's propensity to denigrate women, but he got this movie wrong. What set him off about this movie was the part where Cuthbert is screaming "I'm sorry" - Whedon thinks she's apologizing for "nothing" or rather for simply being a pretty girl. When in fact, in the context of the movie, she's apologizing for "acting up" and trying to placate the torturer. It's a wholly different thing than cultural biases against women and he doesn't help by equating the two.

Considering that all the men are dead by the end, half of them at the hands of Cuthbert herself, I don't think anyone can reasonably take away a message of female objectification and denigration from the movie.

I liked the movie but then I watch the worst movie I have seen in my entire life (S.I.C.K.) and let me tell you I have seen some bad ones, right before watching this film. So, my opinion might be a bit skewed. Anyway not a great movie but an ok one.

It was easier to swallow then Hostel. It's on TV right now and I'm watching it for the first time. It's not too bad, suprisingly, but the second I saw the pretty boy I knew he was involved in some way, it had that whole Scream vibe where the killer is two people not one.
I didn't mind Elisha Cuthbert's acting either, not that it's overly demanding to act frightened a whole movie.

FishyoutaH20 that is so funny, that ios exactly what happened to me about 5 or 6 years ago, I was subject to S.I.C.K. which is the movie that I consider without a doubt the worst movie ever made (that I have seen) and after a number of other similar bad films I gained an appreciation for films like Captivity and others that are not great films, but are much more entertaining than movies like SICK and others of it's ilk, like Fear of Clowns. From these mistakes I also gained the ability to recognize those POS-shot-on-home-video-with-a-100-dollar-budget films just by the cover. I never made the mistake of renting such a stupid film after about 2 or 3 of them.
Captivity is a masterpiece compared to S.I.C.K.
