Any films like this about a girl?

I really enjoyed this film, I think it's really beautiful and just what I've been longing to watch as I have been thinking about monasteries and isolationism. I live next to a monastery, too, so it's just kind of an interest for me.

Anyways, I'm really interested in finding a film where you see a girl grow up, or maybe an adult or adolescent girl who has anger or repressed issues. Most important though, is that the girl has a mentor or a master to guide the girl. Does that make sense? Basically, the same plot as this film but with a girl as the main character. The only film I can remember that is kind of like that is the Karate Kid with Hillary Swank haha. I was into karate as a kid so that was probably why I enjoyed it so much.

Yes, as a matter of fact two years later Kim Ki-Duk made The Bow! Excellent film as well absolutely recommended

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.

Also--though I won't recommend them--the Kill Bill movies contained a back-story something like that, though it's all ridiculously over-the-top in comparison. There are a few somewhat better movies like Cringing Tiger, Hiding Dragon, but again nothing so idyllic. And then there are the Dragon Tattoo movies. Really, these are all from the same mold.

The more I think of it, the more I think I too would love to see something like a female version of this movie. Oh, and something only tangentially in this space would be The Wall (Die Wand) which I definitely recommend, though it's about a woman, not a girl, and there is no mentor.

There are a whole bunch of animes like that! I think you'd really enjoy them :D

Check them out! Just ask on anime boards, a good one is myanimelist.com !!! ^^ there's even a genre specifically for the exact type of story you're looking for too haha, I forget it though.. LOL

I liked Manon of the Spring which is a French movie and a sequel of Jean de Florette. In this movie a young girl, who has lost both her parents, grows up in the mountains. This was caused by a greedy vengeful old man. In the end he discovers he had a connection to the family which shatters him.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
