Not that these boards are pulsing with the lifeblood of textual chatter...I'll just toss in my two cents: No he was not a disappointment in this movie. In fact, I thought Penn was charming in a rather "burned out agent" sort of way that was both believable and engaging.
I do, however, agree with you that him crying while reading the letter to Nicole was a bit ridiculous since it really had nothing to do with his character at all.
