Why was a gun brought into the story?
I can't see any good reason other than to mislead the viewer into thinking Henry was planning to shoot himself which he had no intention of.
Perhaps it was to express his guilt in thinking that he killed his parents.
Dunno. Any thoughts?

In my opinion it was the metaphorical moment for Henry when the "Truth" or "Reality" finally hit, and he was able to be present with the horror of what had actually occured- To process, or let it in. I think it manifested in that way because he had been saying all along that he was planning on killing himself..so for him, that was his "final moment" or act. Until (I believe, unbeknownst to him) it actually "awakened" him in a sense. If only for those few moments.
