i saw the full, uncut version, and own it on dvd, i watch it alot, and the only thing keeping me away from ultraV on bluray is its the PG13 version!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, if you love ultraviolet, see the uncut version, then DEMAND that it be made into bluray!!!!

They need to confiscate every copy of this dreck and bury it in a huge underground vault. And then shoot everyone who knows the location.

? why isn't the uncut version on blue ray? i have the uncut dvd version and all it it adds is 5 min. which explores violet's backstory. it would be nice if we could get the full director's version but that's not gonna happen.
by the way, isn't there supposed to be an ultraviolet anime series or film? could have sworn about reading about that a couple years back.

i want him in the games til he dies playing, even yahtzee!

Firstly, you haven't seen the full uncut version, and you don't own it. The version you're talking about is the extended cut.

Writer/director Kurt Wimmer's original, and desired, cut ran at 120 minutes. The studio didn't like the completed movie, the chief complaint being that it was too emotional for an action movie, and so subsequently completely re-edited it against Wimmer's wishes into an 88 minute cut for theatrical release. The version released for home viewing was extended slightly into the version you say you own on DVD, which runs at 94 minutes.

While I do actually like the movie, I refuse to buy it until it's released in the way Wimmer wanted it to be seen. The emotional scenes in his previous movie, Equilibrium, were handled extremely well, so I trust that he did the same here. That it was described as being "too emotional" shows only too well that they were. The studio obviously okayed the script, and then, when confronted with the finished item, decided all they really needed were the cool action scenes strung together with a bare minimum of plot, which is the substandard release they gave us.

As I said, I do like the released version, but I'd like the complete version more. I'm not giving Sony a single penny for a movie that has essentially had a quarter of its content hacked away. Sure, cool action scenes are all well and good, but without heart they're just a shallow piece of ephemera.

Synthetic, the fact you actually like the load of dung that is the theatrically released version totally undermines your post. Just wanted you to know.

I stated a personal opinion about the movie and some facts about the available release; facts which also explained why I won't buy it at this moment in time. Personal taste does not alter undisputable facts, and opinion on a subject is exactly that.

The thing is, my liking of a movie you think is bad means nothing, and says absolutely nothing about my reasoning skills. If it did, you could murder somebody, then conceivably use the argument that as The Godfather - an extremely highly-regarded film by most - is your favourite movie, your reasoning is obviously sound, so the murder was obviously both rational and just. Case closed. Free the defendant! See what I'm saying? Yes, I'm exaggerating, but that is essentially your argument here.

So, when you said that "you just wanted [me] to know", you haven't actually let me know anything. I've already shown above why the whole "you like this movie so you're dumb" argument is unusable, so please explain how I've undermined anything. I really would like to know, if only to make myself a better person.

DAMMit, I want the director's cut. Had no idea this movie was supposed to be 120min originally. I also already like it the way it is, seen it about 5 times in the past 2 years. Still, bring me the damn directors cut!!!!

reply

i would have to shoot whoever the guy that okayed the 88min cut at the studios equilibrium style. GIVE US THE 120MIN VERSION YOU *beep* NAZIS IDIOTS!!!!!!

no thought, no reflection, no analysis, no control, no intention, let it settle itself.

reply

Two full hours. Man, that gives me a headache just thinking about it... An additional 12 minutes of random color changing hairstyles and cosmetics, and 20 minutes of Ultraviolet striking a pose as hundreds of bad guys fire unlimited rounds and hit nothing. Maybe we'll get lucky and get the extended teacup scene as a bonus. This time, Daxus kills 50 hemophages without spilling a drop. Now that's entertainment!

The unrated version was released on Blu-ray in Japan; not sure if we're allowed to post links, but there are a few places online where you can buy a copy. (yesasia.com has it for about $30; amazon.co.jp sells it both new and used at various prices.)

Oh, P.S.: The Japanese Blu-ray has no English subtitles for the brief scene early in the movie when Ultraviolet goes on the rooftop and talks to the head of that gang. Or, rather, I think you can turn on English subs for the entire movie, but that's the only option. It's like three lines, but just so you know.

It would be rather nice if there was a complete restored director's cut with the original 2 hour running time. I do wonder what other scenes were cut that were originally considered too emotional for the film.

Synthetic completely destroyed that troll! I love you so much for that, Synthetic. I just wanted you to know that. :)
