On the cap. There is nothing more heart breaking on Christmas than to see a relative out did what you could do for your own children.

I doubt that is a new tradition. His family wasn't well off, and as a teen he would know there was a cap. He just didn't care.

As a teen? That would be what, 20 years ago? 30? And that has what to do with anything? Lot of people aren't well off, they don't give their kid a flashlight as their big present.

The point is, he would know there was a cap. He wasn't stupid, or ignorant to the fact. That warranted the family being upset with him.

The flash light was funny. It was just supposed to be a comical way to express their money troubles and the over all insensitivity of the group.

so you would rather deny your child an awesome gift than feel inferior to someone else? get over your ego. if someone wants to be generous to your kids, you should be grateful, and appreciate your kids reaction rather than dwell on your insecurity.
