That was not the writer's mistake but the characters'. It was to show how provincial they were. For many, Hong Kong is the most recognizable 'Asian city,' and anyone who is Asian is 'Chinese' by default. Still, they easily won the game. By contrast, Kate and Brad were supposed to be the worldly ones, and yet they sucked at the game. In short, Denver and his wife were in tune with each other, even if they were mere hicks who'd never traveled anywhere.
