hands down to julie andrews for singing

not what she used to be in stuff like mary poppins and TSOM, but she did a great job in crowning glory. its a catchy song too lol.
still #1 to me!
who agrees?

reply

totally agree with you I love that song so much, and that must have been really hurtfull to do that but she did it and it came top's JULIE ROCKS

reply

I totally agree. She has great courage to do it, and she sounded damn good. As always, Julie is one CLASS ACT.

reply

the good thing about it is that im not aware of people bagging her for it. so maybe she'll sing a bit more. she still sounds good. i havent heard her since the surgery, and i thought that shed be sorta dodgy, but no way. ok, definately not as good as she was, but oh. i just love listening to her. her voice is so much deeper than it used to be too

reply

I know! What a brave thing she did. And I'm such a sad old fan I went and bought the soundtrack so I could listen to Crowning Glory whenever I fancy!!

"nothing is final until you are dead"

reply

I also got It so your not the only one lol

reply

I bought the soundtrack too, just to hear her sing Crowning Glory also, so you're definitely not alone.

AMEN TO THAT SISTA!

I don't suppose I'm used to dancing

reply

I thought Julie Andews sounded wonderful and I wish the song had been kept a duo between her and Anne Hathaway. It would have been so sweet. Instead it turned into sell this latest Disney pop artist. I'm not saying Raven can't sing but the song turned out to be no different than a lot of other common pop songs.

It could have been a lovely ballad between grandmother and granddaughter but no, Disney had to make another buck.

It was a shame that they did'nt do It with just Julie and Anne your all right It would have been better just them to, I don't know why they did'nt tho the song Is great I love It, but as I said It would have been better just them to.

I thought Dame Julie singing was beautiful. I cried.

I nearly did,

And all those years ago, after her triumph on stage doing, "My Fair Lady," they didn't even let her make the movie, giving it to Audrey Hepburn because she was more famous at the time, and then DUBBING Audrey's voice (without her knowing!). They screwed EVERYBODY over back in the good ol' days!

Anyhow, if you don't know, Julie A got MARY POPPINS the year after and BOOM! LEGENDARY CAREER STARTS HERE!

And now for a legendary career that doesn't start at all...

Oh I just love Julie Andrews...shes my hero! I was so happy she was able to sing even if it wasn't her usual. I feel so bad for her with her surgery and all it would be terrible one moment to be able to sing and then the next not able to at all. I t entirely sucks for her...but I still love her anyways and hats off to her for her entire performance!

I truthfully bought the movie because of her.....I just love everything shes in

I totally agree. In fact, I'll even go one better; I bought the original PD dvd just so I could play, and replay(repeatedly), the dance scene between Julie and Hector(where he tells her that she's been wearing black too long). Their chemistry just jumped off the screen at me(and it's the reason that I think he is so hot and sexy).

reply

I remember when they asked her to sing (when I was watching it for the first time) I was thinking. "They want her to sing? I want her to sing. Is she gonna sing, she's going to sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I was so excited. I didn't cry but I almost did.

That's my $0.02

The throat surgery almost ruined her voice, and Crowning Glory was the first time she'd sung since. She nailed it on the first take, and the crew was crying by the time she was done.

Dear me! What is that unpleasant aroma? I fear the sewer may have backed up during the night.

reply

she kind of did sing before this in Eloise at the Plaza/at Christmas time. I had heard she was going to sing in the movie before, and i went with a bunch of school friends to watch it at the cinemas and I was soo so excited just waiting for the scene to come. When the scene came on I had to squeeze my friends to settle me down so I could actually watch it. I cried as well. Beautiful.

reply

even though she had that surgery, she sounded awesome!!
YEAH!

my mom said that she probably sued the docs who gave her the operation:o

reply

'twas gorgeous. Am I the only one who has a sudden urge to throttle Raven? She wrecked it, IMHO.

LMC xxx

When it rains, look for rainbows; when it’s dark, look for stars.

reply

She did sue. The amount she won was supposed to be confidential, but I've read that she got around 30 million (still not enough to make up for what was done to her IMO).

reply

yeah, ive heard 20 million pounds, and also 30 million...but yeah around that

but just think how much she could have made through touring, cd sales, movies, broadway if she could still sing how she used to?

not enough compensation!

Dame Julie is the best!

eug

reply

I also think it may have been nice to keep it with Anne, Julie, AND Raven. Raven being a bit more modern, while Anne just being sweet, and Julie being more melodic. I think that would be a good mix. ^^

reply

i absoluetly LOVEE julie andrews. Sound of Music is my favorite movie because of her singing. Shes awsome.

reply

So I just finished rewatching PD2, and I cried AGAIN when Julie Andrews sang. I remember when I saw it in the theatre--I had no idea she was going to sing in it, and being such an avid fan of hers I knew that she wasn't supposed to sing again. OMG I balled in the theatre and I am pretty sure I started uttering something to the effect of "Oh that's so beautiful, she couldn't... but she did...". I bought the movie mainly for this reason actually lol

reply

Wow, she sings in this? I watched it on ABC last night, and apparently they cut this scene. I had no idea she sing until coming onto this board. At what point in the movie does she sing?

"You know what happens to people who shut everybody up?"
"They lead quiet, peaceful lives?"

reply

I liked that they had her sing in this. She has such a beautiful singing voice, and she uses it well.

And she was singing it at Mia's slumber party.

reply

I thought I was gonna cry when she started singing haha

I love that song soo much.

I've seen the movie many times on the Disney channel and the family channel. It seems the Family channel seems to cut this scene among others, possibly because they have to make time for the comercials, while the Disney channel plays the movie intact.
Personaly, I love the scene because it shows our Julie in a playful and approachable perspective. I love the scene with her mattress surfing down the staircase. I know it was probably a stunt double(especially because part of it was filmed from behind her), but it is funny just the same.
The duet with Raven was beautiful and touching. I would love to hear her sing in more movies.

reply

[deleted]

Yeah she did the whole mattress thing herself. She goes through the whole thing about how she was nervous during the commentary. I say go her!

Since the beginning of her career she has said that she always makes a point to do her own stunts.
