Am I the only one who thinks this?

I am a huge fan of the first film, as well as the book series which I read when I was a teenager. This movie, however, is just so terrible! They could have done so much LESS and it would have made it just as solid as the first! Even 5 years ago I flinched at the corny dialogue in certain scenes, the gimmicks, over-silly happenings, lame characters, and the general childishness in this movie.

That absence of the aforementioned things helped the first film break away from the mold of Disney "kiddie flicks". I just wish they would have not dumbed it down....such a waste considering the beautiful costuming, wonderful cinematography, and pleasant actors.
