question about the monarchy

At the risk of sounding like an idiot. I always wonder about how it actually works in the film. Why the need for the Monarchy at all if Parliament can force Mia to marry before she can rule then does that mean they have more legal or political power and the queen is just a figurehead or is it an equal thing?

We have now. If the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child is a girl, she will inherit the throne ahead of any younger brothers.
