I think had there been a 3rd movie I think it should have been released in 2007. I think it would have been interesting to see how Mia handled being Queen of Genovia in the 3rd film and her struggles with maintaining her crown and balancing out a normal love and her relationship with Nicholas. However I do wonder why is that Disney didn't pursue a 3rd Princess Diaries. I guess it probably had to due more with Anne Hathway who probably didn't want to get typecasted and wanting to move on to more mature roles. Question is when would be the right time to make another film.
shareI wouldn't be surprised if they decide to make a Princess Diaries 3 considering that nowadays it seems that older movie franchises are getting more sequels made, but Anne revealed in an interview that she isn't interested in doing more Princess Diaries movies.
shareThe only way I'd be even remotely interested in a third was is IF everyone came back in their roles. However, as you said, Anne seems to have no interest in playing Mia again (which is fine with me), so I don't really want them to even attempt to make a third with cast changes...
Look at the Prince and Me. It was a very good, very cute movie. Then they made a sequel, but Julia Stiles didn't want to reprise her role, so they recast. And that movie sucks. And then they wanted to make a third, but Luke Mably didn't want to reprise his role this time, so they recast him as well, and somehow the third one managed to suck even more! And then they made a fourth one that went direct to video and featured elephants or something.
So yeah, I'd be more than happy if they just left the Princess Diaries alone (especially because the 2nd one wasn't really all that great anyway).
