not impressed

other then the thrilling stunt work, this movie had nothing else going for it at all..

the movie had no charisma from the actors, the director, the score, the editor... nothing!

Tony Jaa seems to have some great skills in Martial Arts, but has a lot to learn about acting and being a strong screen presence. well, not just Tony, but all involved.

the action was anticlamatic and the score was HORRIBLE! it didn't help the scenes what so ever. :(

the script seems to be taken from every 80's fight back and get revenge script ever written with the important character development parts removed.

i gave this a 3/10.

BTW, you CAN have a great martial arts movie AND have great story. that's no excuse.

Hahah, nice reply.

In any case, I don't much like the things you mentioned, either, but I don't take it seriously. I take it for what it is: ridiculously violent martial arts entertainment.

I get the sense that the makers of the film assume that if they just show a lot of ass-kicking, that they don't need a plot. Or good actors. Or good directing. Or good writing. Or good editing. Or good music. Rofl.

In any case, I would rate it higher than 3/10. Maybe like, 6/10 or so, but that's just because I really enjoy the off-beat comedy that's thrown in with Tony Jaa's amazing feats.

Anyway, cheers!

reply

Maybe i was just expecting more from it with all the hype it had.

if you like off-beat comedy, you should check out some of Stephen Chows older stuff like Royal Tramp 1 & 2, a Chinese Odyssey and 60 million dollar man... wow, talk about off beat!!!

its a martial arts movie. 98% of them (not Jet Li or Jackie Chan movies) have bad storylines. People watch for the fights, check Bruce Lee movies

Last 3 Movies Seen:

A Man Apart: 8.5/10
Gone In 60 seconds: 7/10
The Dark Knight 10/10

I have not yet seen it, just trailers. I bought it yesterday, the only reason was to see Tony Jaa' martial arts, which from the trailers looks even better than Bruce Lee.

It is impossible to prove a falsehood or a negation using logically valid premises.

i personally wouldn't want a plot to go with the asskicking. it would probably lead to some form of spontaneous combustion of my brain, seeing how it's got to handle that huge blob of awesome.

Then don't watch "Fearless".

...not if he learns English. I personally am torn between wanting him to take on Hollywood, and keeping the raw Thai-ness about his films. I definitely enjoyed ong bak more than protector.

I have NEVER seen a movie based on martial arts with a good story, EVER.

This is why I rate them based on action scenes. I gave this 6/10 (-4 for bad acting and story).

reply

The fight scenes are decent enough. The side characters were terrible.

reply

I agree. I was disappointed. 5/10.
