Why does he try to stop the cremation after seeing fire from the stove?

I love this movie no matter how pretentious the movie may seem. But This makes no sense. Why does he try to stop the cremation after he sees the fire from the stove? I don't get it. Does he not know what the definition of cremation is?
Either way, I love the movie

Because he realized that he forgot to put his father in his favorite blue suit like his mother had asked him to do. That is why you see them bury the suit at the end of the movie.

I always thought it was because cremation is fine in the abstract -- but then he saw the fire in the stove, and realized... this is his DAD they're lighting on fire. He wanted to stop it, because he couldn't bear the thought of them cremating him anymore.
