Guys I've been watching Interstella lately and decided I would ask what you guys thought. The end where the kid is sleeping, what do you think this is supposed to symbolize? My theory is that he was dreaming it all, thought I can't be sure.
That's pretty much what I think happend too, he fell asleep listening to their record and incorporated his toys with the music in his subconscious. Either that or there's an entire universe in the record...
i think you guys are right about the dream of the japanese guy ( who i think is the director)
still its kind of wiered that there was a capatin future episode with a small univers that was hidden in a crytal ... and the whole movie sort of resambles the captain futur style ... ?!
He's a fan of the group, he has all the toys, posters, music, and listening to their album he imagines a story in which he is in a spaceship plastered with posters, just like his room, in which he has a crush on the female singer, just like in real life, and he gets to be the hero.
The "Hero" in Interstella doesn't only have a crush on the girl from the band (the one why plays the bass). She is his girlfriend. That is why the radar people called to him when the band was kidnapped. I'm not so sure about the boy being the "Hero", but it is a possibility. I'm more for the idea of Leiji Matsumoto being the small boy in the end. He is the visual advisor for the movie btw. If you pay close attention, you can see both men from Daft Punk sitting next to him in that black 'n white clip in the begining of the movie. That clip was from an interview of Leiji Matsumoto, Guy-Manuel de Homme de Christo, and Thomas Bangalter (Guy-Man. and Thom. being the two guys from Daft Punk) That was why they put that interview clip it. It ties the movie begining and end together. My ideas could be far from right, but this is what I believe to be true. ~"She was crazed.. She BIT me!" Resident Evil~
<<The "Hero" in Interstella doesn't only have a crush on the girl from the band (the one why plays the bass). She is his girlfriend. That is why the radar people called to him when the band was kidnapped.>>
I find this hard to believe considering he clearly has all the qualities of a fantasizing fanboy about his favourite pop idol. I mean, why would you have to fantasize and dream about her if you already had her?
Because they are a BAND! Bands go on tours. He wants to see his girlfriend, but he can't cause she's away. If he was a little fanboy, why wasn't he at the concert then?
I saw him more as the planet's protector also, but more as a great soldier given the responsibility to protect the planet than a James Bond type character. I don't think they would have just trusted the boyfriend of the girl in the band to rescue them. When she first sees him in that warehouse she looks confused more than anything. If she was his boyfriend she'd probably start crying on the spot instead of being cautious in holding his hand. It also gives more of an impact in the story for the planet's hero to go save them and he also just happens to be in love with one of the band members. It makes more sense that way, if your girlfriend were famous I doubt you'd have her picture plastered all over your room.
Considering how many pictures of her there are in his room it'd probably creep her, or anyone for that matter, out. You also have to notice that there are no pictures of him and her together. It's more likely that he's just a huge fan and in love with one of the band members. Him being her boyfriend just doesn't add up if you watch the entire movie and look at thoes things. Plus, that doesn't explain why he was sent to rescue them, he was the planet's protector and a fan of the band, that's the most rational explination in my opinion.
I agree that the whole story is just the boy (Leiji)'s dream. And does anyone notices at the end when the parents came in to the room and started to pack everything up, when the mother leans towards the boy to give him a goodnight kiss, the mother looks exactly like Stella? The character of Stella in his dream could be based on her own mother. We didn't get to see the father's face, only his hands, but I can imagine that the father looks like Shep.
deep down i know it's a dream but i don't want to reconise this as i feel it very anti-climatical in the wizard of oz vein, but with regards to the previous posters it does make sense but i don't think shep was stella's girlfriend as when she saw him even after her brainwashing was unwashed there was no recollection of who he was, and if she loved him as much as her you would have expected that
Sorry Chaoqueen but I feel you've missed the mark on the boyfriend issue. Forget the posters issue and look at the moment when Stella (in human guise) meets the injured Shep. First clue is he blushes, not a rush of emotion or lust that a boyfriend might experience but a reaction born from slight embarrassement. Then the moment when they touch (a beautiful moment imo) and they go into the dream sequence. I get the impression that everything we see in this moment is what Shep 'would like' to share with Stella, not an interpretation of an ongoing relationship. I think that Shep is the protector of the race, hence the emergency button shaped like his ship. Imo he is really just a pure and honest dude who adores his ship and is head over heels in love with the most wonderful creature in his galaxy. The fact that they are not boyfriend and girlfriend and that he actually pines for her as much as every other person in their race (probably) does makes him more down to earth and ironically, more human.
Going a little off topic: To me this movie is about the purity of the human spirit and how in the future we may all yet live in harmony. To me the race of blue people represents the human race in our original state of Spiritual unity. When the band are brought back to Earth and turned into soul-less machines, this represents the age we are in now. When the band gets back to their home world and they have an Earth/Blue people jam, this represents humans moving through the current age of sepration and into a new era of unity and love.
I just simply love this movie. Me and My Bro took a pill each and watched it. It brought us closer together and was a turning point in my life. Nuff said.
Personally, I completely loved it and am immensely inspired by it. Here's my idea, I wonder if you other fans would like it, a fic about the Crescendolls. My premise would be that, upon the death of Shep, the band themselves decide to fill his nobel shoes. Also, with the alliance between earth and the other planet, they found ways to travel to the other star systems that some of the other musicians came from. It could be totally hardcore, with them jaming through space and defending the 'Blue planet' and Earth. It might just be a stupid, awe inspired idea, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.
i loved the ending alot but i don't think the kid was dreamin the whole thing. i think it's whatactually happenend and the crescendolls were so famous and the kid was a huge fan and a tad bit too obsessed. neway what always makes go all weepy is the part where they uncover Shep's statue. it makes me feel bad that he died cuz u no.. he's so hott. :P
