Interstella 5555 what'd you think?

I am just interested in hearing what everyone thought
and where in the world you're from/where you saw this movie?
also how many people who saw this movie are Daft Punk fans or have heard the whole cd etc. etc. Also who here hates/dislikes anime and saw the movie anwyas and how did you walk out feeling

what do i think?
well...this whole movie is pretty original I thought it was excellent. I saw it here in Austin, TX where only one theatre showed the movie for one day and at one showing. My friend and I hauled ass downtown and got tix. I must say I couldn't take my eyes of the screen. All the creative animation and everything that happens...all accompanied by the music...it just gets to you. No words were spoken and I don't think any words needed to be spoken. All emotions and everything were captured just right. As for the whole Daft Punk thing....they are my favoirte musical arist of all time. I like all ranges of music and somehow Daft Punk made it on top. I can't wait until this comes out on DVD in this country. I will buy this move whne it does...or maybe i will pay the extra bucks and have is sent from the other side of the world seeing as how i am sure it will be released there first
n e wayz enough from me
i want to hear from you

hmm i love daft punk and i really enjoyed those first 4 clips...unfortunatly they havent released the entire movie yet in europe, although i just saw a new clip on MTV. ofcourse i was stunned and i wanted to know if anybody knew a site where i could watch the clips one by one since it hasnt been released in europe yet, and i dont think they will :(

reply

I don't know about the rest of europe but here in the uk the dvd comes out december 1st so if you are looking to order it on dvd i think it is here before the US.

Yeah well some of us can't see in the dark ya f*ckin' nipple head.

reply

Yep indeed.
bought the DVD today in the UK. (It also comes with a CD of rare Daft Punk remixes) and is a superb package with great extras (including a very funny Daft Punk Karaoke game).... I'm not sure if its gonna be released to you guys in the states (and when it does it will most likely not include the bonus music disc) but this site : http://www.play.com/ can send you a pretty cheap copy (about £17 - delivery free). Hope this helps & may Da Funk be with you always!

reply

wow... it cost me 17 USD ...and it was jsut the DVD no extra cd or anything....damn it ...America can suck hardcore sometimes....this is one of those times

reply

cool where did you buy it?? online or the states??? i wonder if theres any differents in the DVD content if its bought from europe then US?? cus i would like to get the extra cd.

and maddjester, that was cool to know that they showed the movie in austin, i'm an hour and a half from there, and just wish that i knew about it so i could have gone.

reply

i went to best buy and they didn't have it in stock....so i got it off thewir website. Its about 17 bucks...and i think it is well worth it. So you live an hour and a half away...do you live in San Antonio

also another thing you should think about comming to austin for SXSW....its like a giant arts festival...mostly movies and music. A lot of cool stuff premires then...and some sweet ass bands come and do shows....i tyhink its sometime in march

For years, I'd been waiting for someone to to an anime music video. When "One More Time" rolled around, I was blown away. I'd seen the subsequent clips, and was ecstatic when I found out it was being made into a full-length feature.

Finally getting my hands on the DVD and being able to watch it was practically a religious experience for me. It was amazing to finally see how the rest of the plot unfolded. The amount of characterization they were able to pack in, without dialogue, is astounding. I was, of course, very saddened at Shep's death, but I was glad to see they didn't just forget about him.
Truly, an amazing film.

First of all, I'm from Estonia and saw Interstella in PÖFF, which is an annual film festival here.

Seeing as I bought Daft Punk's 'Dicovery' album as soon as it came out here and also like anime, Interstella was a must-see for me. The fact that I have always wanted to see the full story of those videoclips made me look forward to it even more. And guess what -- I was dazzled. Interstella is a wonderful mix of (pop)music, music videos and movies, the atmosphere is just right in tune with the music and the way the story is told just by music and pictures -- not a single word except for the lyrics -- is amazing. Unfortunately the sound wasn't as loud as it could've been in the theatre which was kinda annoying at first but not too bad after a while. Or maybe I need to have my hearing checked.

Well, that basically it. After seeing the movie I went home to fall to sleep with 'Discovery' ringing in my headphones and hoping to dream about Interstella.

Hey there,

I just bought the sepcial ed. DVD (for £22! not £17...). I loved the videos for the singles and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw they'd done a whole feature length film. They were showing the film the previous week before the DVD came out at my local independent cinema, too.

As a DVD, and especially as it claims to be a special edition, I didn't think the extras were that great. The rare Daft Punk CD is fine, but there's no making-of! Or commentry.

Well worth the money still, but it would've been nice to get a bit more. Also, the one thing that lets the whole film down is the fact that it's based around Daft Punk's Discovery album - which is great for the singles and upbeat dancefloor-filling numbers, but it kind of lacks something in the slower ones. Maybe they could scrapped those songs and added in some dialogue instead; it would have made the good musical parts much fresher and taken away a somewhat sonically saturated feel.

But I still love it.

I bought it (with the CD)for £12! Its fantastic!

I love the idea that all of the great musical geniuses came from distant galaxies. Imagine if that were true that would mean that The Beatles came from some distant galaxie thousands of miles away and that Westlife came from.....Ireland.

Oh and was anyone else slightly attracted to "Stella", not since I was a wee boy have i felt these urges to a drawing!

reply

£12? Tsk.

Stella reminded me of Hillary, the bassist formerly of JJ72.

As farfetched as this may sound, i actually tried to write an ending to the Daft punk discovery album. It was around half a year ago when after listening to Discovery Thousands of times and watching the four videos, that i just felt the urge to write an ending (cause at that time i thought there wouldnt be any) now after writing the 30 mini-novel, i felt somewhat satisfied and concluded that if i were to give this to Daft Punk it would be a reasonable story (though i actually dint). Then after today, when i saw the movie, i was somewhat shocked, though obviously not the same thing, there were little traces of what i wrote here and there. If anyone here doesnt believe me, im gona try to post somewhere the story i wrote to see if you can kind of see how it went.

Oh and about the movie, it was great, better than what i couldve imagined (or written) and it exites me to see the originality these two muscians (plus Leji Matsumoto) have. And i bought the normal DVD at 21 here, probably cause the cheapest place was already sold out.

Wow! What a great experience, i saw the film last new year for the first time and i was blown away! Beautiful old school animation and even though i linke Daft Punk's other albums more the music still rocks.
Today i bought tickets to see Daft Punk live here in the Netherlands, i can't wait...

reply

I saw this a few years ago and it amazed me. I saw it out of curiosity and wasn't expecting much out of it. I thought it would be like watching a painfully long music video. Instead, I got an engaging story with wonderful animation, and a soundtrack tailer made to fit it. Or, a wonderful soundtrack with an animaiton tailer made to fit it. Either way, I loved it. I actually didn't like this Daft Punk album when it came out; however, with this movie it works so well.

i saw this movie right here on my computer and i gotta say it was pretty engaging for a movie with no dialogue, resting souly on a house soundtrack by renown dj's Daft Punk. It flows perfectly with the music and both serve to enhance each other. The story is far out, the animation is great, really enjoyed the climax.

I'm from Illinois, and I loved it. I thought it was a clever, entertaining film, and the songs kicked ass! I finally saw it on YouTube a few months ago.

I'm a huge fan of daft punk's music and discovery (altough i've listened to it wat to much) and this movie is a masterpiece and probably great if you have'nt heard about Daft Punk.
