I just saw the movie they got the idea from!

same people, same use of colour, much music everything! it is amazing for the time! it is soo old and still look beautiful. i think the chinese guy who had a dream who made the story for interstella 5555 had a dream of this after watching this movie!

i had to see it in japanese with chinese subtitles since i just happend to find it in a dvd store for one dollar =P it was still worth the watch 100%

I reward your powers of observation, but two things I am compelled to point out:

1--The gentleman at the beginning of Interstellar, Leiji Matsumoto, is Japanese. He is one of the great veteran animators from his country. Along with techno duo Daft Punk, he is the "they" behind this film.

2--"Space Battleship Yamato", known in this country as STAR BLAZERS, is also his creation--one of his EARLIER creations.

But, congratulate yourself for recognizing his style.

Just to add my 2 cents, not only was it daft Punks collaboration with Leiji Matsumoto that created this film, Daft Punk specifically searched for Leiji to work on the project for them because they were Space Battleship Yamato fans when they were young, and thought that space battleship Yamato was responsible for part of their musical inspiration.
