Just 2 eps in, but quick question about brothers' ages

I might find this out soon in an episode, but it's really bugging me how close in age Nathan and Lucas are. What grades are they in in season 1? Lucas can only be one or two years older--three at the most, but this would mean Nathan made the varsity basketball team as a freshman.

I find this very strange because Lucas was an accident, yet Dan would have to have been married and having a child within just a few years after high school in order for this situation to exist. People do that, sure, but it's just strange that he absolutely refused to consider Lucas his son but then turned around and had another baby in wedlock immediately afterward.

Lucas is 3 months older than Nathan. Dan got Karen pregnant, left her, got together with Deb and knocked her up as well (same year).

They get into that as the show goes on. But I think Dan chose to stay with Deb because he had financial security (her parents were well off).
