Did anyone watch this movie with no trailer and no Shyamalan knowledge?

I did. And I love it. The marketing never ruined it for me, and I didn't know anything about M Night except that he made Sixth Sense and Signs (which I didn't know anything about, also) and so I didn't expect a twist and wasn't looking for one.

Did anyone else have this experience and love it like I do, since you went into it free of any preconceived notions? I showed it to a couple of my friends in the same bubble as me and they also loved it. I was so shocked to hear how many people hate it before understanding the reason, and I think that's so sad since it's a beautiful film.

Yes. I deliberately hide from trailers and spoilers. I love the mood of the film and the sound track. I have had so much more fun and enjoyment from series and movies since I stopped trying to guess ahead or analyze the movie before it's over.

Here is not here

I saw this film with no prior knowledge of it. I'm so glad I did.

Just about every negative thing I've heard or read about The Village was from people who knew about the twist ahead of time.

Yes, but only by accident as I am the type of fellow who will seek out trailers before watching a film. This DVD didn't have a trailer (oh poo). So, I watched it "naked" and enjoyed the film.

I suspected that the elders weren't what they claimed to be.

1. The treaty: the agreement between the people of the village and the creatures seemed too contrived.
2. Lucius seemed to know more than he was letting on...His comment, "There are secrets in all corners of this village."

Anyhow, enjoyed the movie thought it was a parable based on the Jim Jones tragedy in 1978 (Guyana).
