What a load of tripe!! I'll admit, I've never seen the original so can't compare, but having just sat through this, all I can think is "that's 2 and a half hours of my life - gone".
Denzel, Liev and Maryl were good with the god-awful plot they were given, but honestly - this was rubbish.
So have I but on a rerun on wed 16th - should have read the thread first. Tosh really. I recall the original which was in B&W I think and much more chilling. What i can say is that acting, if not plot, better than last film I saw which was "Derailed" with the muscles from Brussels.
Yes, I too saw it last night, and nearly gave up on it several times - almost wish I had now. I guess that if I watched it again, some bits of the jigsaw might gall into place, but I can't be bothered. I did wonder how long Ben Marco had had that implant in his shoulder; I assume it was when he was captured during the First Gulf War, in which case it took him a long time to realise it was there. And then it appears he bit the implant out of Shaw's shoulder. And how come Shaw managed to slip away from his minders to do the double-murder? And I'm still not sure how the black "Shadow-team" girl felt about Marco (and why) and why she helped Marco when he was obviously a very loose cannon.
i thought it was very good, saw it for the first time last night on channel 4 and i liked everything about it, the ending seemed a bit rushed. but it was a crazy film, the bits where there being altered and messed with are disturbing, cool stuff.
dont get me wrong it isnt the godfather, granted. but still a good flick. would watch it again.
- who am i? im a spoke on a wheel, so was he and so are you.
yep i loved it too.i was super happy with the ending.i nearly cried! shaw deserved that medal.i love you film 4! i guess i gotta look out for the old version now.
The other night I watched it again, three years after my first comments (above). It took me 30 minutes before I got the feeling that I had already seen it, so obviously it hadn't made much impression the first time around. Having seen it all again, I feel no need to alter my report of my reactions first time around, though I wonder about the ending and what happened to Marco (and why and how).
I guess people who don't like this just expect too much. It's only a movie. The original was a good movie. This one is scary good.
If only those responsible for it had waited 4 years, they could have had Denzel Washington play Sgt.Shaw and made the movie much more relevant and realistic. Not to mention Meryl Streep has the Nancy Pelosi character pegged.
